Today, the flowers are used to honor fallen soldiers, especially those of the first World War, or to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing Forget Me Not Flowers
1. Begin by sketching the twig or stem. Draw a pair of long curved lines that are basically parallel but diverge at the top. Connect them at the bottom. Then, draw a series of "V" shaped lines to create the smaller twigs.
2. Draw a second stem. Use a pair of long curved lines that are connected by a short line at the bottom and meet at a point at the top. Use a "V" shaped line and a short line to create another smaller twig. Begin drawing the large blossoms, erasing as necessary. For each petal, use two curved lines that meet at a gentle point. Allow the petals to overlap
3. Complete the first flower and begin drawing the second large blossom, erasing as necessary. For each petal, use two curved lines that meet at a gentle point. Allow the petals to overlap, forming a five-pointed star-shaped flower. Then, draw a center in one of the flowers. First, shade a small oval. Then, use a wavy line to enclose a five-pointed shape.
4. Shade an oval in the remaining blossom, and enclose a wavy shape around it. Then, draw a third, smaller blossom, erasing as necessary. Again, use curved lines that meet at a gentle point for each petal. Shade a small oval at the center, and enclose a wavy shape around it.
5. Draw a fourth blossom, and begin drawing a fifth. Use curved lines that meet at a gentle point for each petal. Shade a small oval at the center, and enclose a wavy shape around it.
6. Complete the fifth flower with gently pointed petals, a shaded center, and a wavy shape around it. Then, begin drawing the petals of the next flower.
7. Complete the petals and the center of the previous flower. Then, begin drawing the gently pointed petals of the next flower.
8. Complete the final flower with a petal and the center. Then, draw leaves. For each leaf, extend two curved lines and allow them to meet at a point. Draw a curved line to form the central leaf vein.
9. Draw more leaves. Use a pair of curved lines for each, and allow them to meet at a sharp point. Then, draw a curved line to form the central leaf vein.
Color your cartoon forget me not flowers. We've shaded ours in soft pink and blue. In the wild, these flowers are generally pink with yellow or orange centers, turning blue in time. Some are also white. Sometimes, all three colors can occur on the same stem.
